    Navigating post-globalisation volatility:

In an ever-changing post-globalisation world, dealing with volatility without suffering its negative consequences is a crucial challenge. At the Trento Festival of Economics, the event "Leadership Crisis and the Decline of the West," moderated by Riccardo Barlaam of Il Sole 24 Ore, explored these geopolitical issues. They discussed whether the pendulum of history is irreversibly swinging eastwards and how the changing West affects international relations. In the meantime, the Chinese group BYD announced the imminent arrival in Europe of the Seagull electric city car, sold in China for around $10,000 and expected in Europe for less than €20,000, a highly competitive price.

Carabinieri, our 'neighbours' ready to help us

A recent Eurispes survey highlights a growing trust of citizens in the Carabinieri. And it was precisely the present, the future of the Force and its relationship with the community that was discussed at the event 'Legality, solidarity, militariness: how the Carabinieri Force is changing', held in the Sala Depero of the Palazzo della Provincia. In dialogue were Giovanni Maria Flick, President Emeritus of the Constitutional Court and Vice-President of the Carabinieri's Ethics Committee, and Teo Luzi, Commander General of the Carabinieri, with moderation by Lina Palmerini, Journalist of Il Sole 24 Ore.

Trento calls, Naples and Milan answer. Virtuous examples of urban regeneration and common goods

How can we regenerate places and common goods in a society of profound economic and social change? How to create regenerative processes that also encourage the active participation of citizens? These questions were answered by the concrete examples presented at the panel "Regenerating places to regenerate communities: caring for the commons as a tool for participation", proposed by Trento European Volunteer Capital. The meeting, promoted by the Municipality of Trento, in collaboration with the organisation of the Festival of Economics, presented reflections on participatory governance in Trento, Naples and Milan.

    A Mosquito without veils

For years now, La Zanzara has been one of Italy's trend-setting radio programmes. On air on Radio 24, the programme also plays on the decidedly sparkling relationship between the two presenters Giuseppe Cruciani and David Parenzo, who are very far apart in their view of things. For the first time this morning, at the Festival of Economics, the two souls of Zanzara met the public in a real press conference. A Q&A between the girls and boys who filled the Teatro Sociale made up of questions and curiosity for Cruciani and Parenzo on stage together with two of the most bizarre characters of the radio talk show: Filippo Champagne and Nevio, known to Zanzara fans for their inordinate passion for the game.

Network and quality of supply for the Italian university as a factory of excellence

To make the Italian academy a factory of excellence in the eyes of the world, more so than it has been to date, thanks to an offer that is truly attractive to students at an international level. A goal in collaboration between the ministry and the universities themselves, while respecting their autonomy, the one outlined by the Minister for Universities and Research as guest today at the Trento Festival of Economics. In the discussion hosted by the Regional Government building, starting with the focus "on the internationalisation of research and training" and questions from Sole 24 Ore journalist Eugenio Bruno, priority and topical issues for the Italian higher education and research system were touched upon: from the new frontiers such as supercomputers and artificial intelligence to the development of universities according to the logic of competitiveness and quality, with a view to aggregations, networks and 'federations' as proposed by the minister, passing through the 'hot' topic of protests and the announcement on the tests for medicine (the decree is on its way, the minister said, the places are 20.867).

Natality, alongside economic support and conciliatory services a cultural change is needed

Creating a 'family-friendly' social and cultural context that values parenthood and motherhood, guaranteeing women the freedom to have children - or not to have children - and the possibility of reconciling being mothers with the other possibilities that life can offer.
This is the challenge to relaunch the birth rate in our country according to the Minister for the Family, Birth and Equal Opportunities, speaking today at the Trento Festival of Economics on the panel "Demographic rearmament à la Macron or women's conscious choices?", moderated by Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Barbara Gobbi.

    Pensions, healthcare and demographic transition

Pensions, healthcare and demographic transition: this was the topic discussed today at the Philharmonic Orchestra in Trento by Alberto Brambilla, president of the Itinerari Previdenziali study centre, Elsa Fornero, now professor at the University of Turin, Stefano Scarpetta, director for employment, labour and social affairs at the OECD, and Marcello Signorelli, director of the Department of Economics at the University of Perugia. At the centre of the discussion, moderated by Corrado Chiominto, editor-in-chief of ANSA's Economic-Financial Editorial Staff, were three main factors: demographic factors, with the progressive ageing of the population; economic factors, because there is no healthy pension system if there is no functioning economy upstream; and fiscal factors, because in an already heavily indebted country such as Italy, the impact of tax evasion is very strong. The comparison also revealed insights that are not always considered in the media debate. For example: it is true that the ratio between young and old is unbalanced, but Italy is already not making full use of the available resources, i.e. precisely young people and women of working age (only 50 per cent of them are employed compared to a European average of 60 per cent).

Tax reform: we need certainty and speed

Lights and shadows of the tax reform emerged this morning from the Trento Festival of Economics panel 'A turning point is needed between tax, businesses and taxpayers'. Jean Marie Del Bo, deputy editor of Il Sole 24 Ore, asked the guests for an analysis of the Italian tax situation and the new tax reform. In a crowded reception hall at Palazzo Geremia, a varied picture emerged of strengths and weaknesses, expressed through the eyes of institutions, businesses, sector operators and specialists.
After an interview with Ernesto Maria Ruffini, director general of the Agenzia delle Entrate e Riscossione, speakers included Silvia Castagna, social analyst and expert in communication and innovation, Maria Pierro, professor of tax law at the University of Insubria, Livia Salvini, professor of tax law at Luiss Guido Carli University, Lorenzo Fronteddu, director of corporate affairs and communication JTI Italia, and Simone Zucchetti, partner at the Tremonti Romagnoli Piccardi e associati law firm.
Transversal needs: more certainty and faster response times.
The event was also an opportunity to present the new Bruno Frizzera Philanthropic Fund, dedicated to the well-known Trentino tax expert, who passed away at the age of 94 in 2012.

Work and business: the Italy of paradoxes

On the one hand those looking for work cannot find it, on the other companies struggle to find the professional skills they need. This is the evident paradox that is characterising the labour market in our country, analysed in the panel 'Work and enterprises: the Italy of paradoxes', organised by Confcooperative at the Trento Festival of Economics. Gardini: 'Extraordinary maintenance is needed. The thicket of 1000 contracts must be cleared, in that pseudo-legality dumping lurks'.

Circular economy: from interconnection with the maritime economy to new frontiers

Applying the circular economy to the economy of the sea is a necessity. This was strongly reiterated by the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, who spoke at the Trento Festival of the Economy to focus on the protection and actions put in place to relaunch the role of the so-called 'blue economy'. In particular, working on the role of the sea itself and of a stretch of water as fundamental to the economy as the Mediterranean, where 24% of world trade passes through. The two economies are interconnected, the minister explained, for a sea that right now, if it could, would ask for help, finding itself in a difficult pathological condition despite initiatives, such as the UN agreement, aimed at protecting it. But its economy is relaunching itself in an important way, the Minister added, starting from southern Italy, which has changed its approach to the sea. And the growth of the 'blue economy' has seen an equal increase in attention to the environment and thus to the circular economy, with the reuse of boats, cloth and fish waste. Moreover, the first National Plan for the Sea, concluded the Minister, which aims not only at its valorisation but at much broader objectives, is also concrete proof of this.
