Women and work
Women’s participation in the workforce is a key factor in economic development. Whilst the data show that women are increasingly present in the workforce and sometimes even reach senior positions, significant imbalances remain, as evidenced by the continued under-representation of women in top management roles.
This situation is caused by many factors, including gender discrimination within companies, mainly due to the family care responsibilities that women predominantly shoulder. Women, in fact, find themselves facing a multitude of tasks that complicate their access to or career progression, compared to their male colleagues.
It is well known, however, that an increase in and greater recognition of women’s work yields economic benefits and improved performance for businesses and the economy as a whole, whilst also enhancing women’s well-being and economic independence.
For the Autonomous Province of Trento, this issue is a priority, and it is taking action on behalf of women and businesses to support female employment and work-life balance.
