Responsibilities and functions
The Chamber of Commerce is an autonomous public body that performs a multiplicity of functions, all of which fall under the common definition of market regulation. Among the main ones, it is worth mentioning the keeping of the business registry, price recording, ascertaining usages and customs, ascertaining the presence of vexatious clauses in membership contracts, preparing standard contracts, protecting competition, combating crimes against the public economy, protecting industrial property through the filing of trademarks and patents, arbitration and conciliation, promoting the territory, entrepreneurial training and others.
In the current legal framework, these functions are understood not only in reference to the entrepreneurial system, but also to its privileged interlocutor, i.e. the consumer, thus shifting the emphasis from the protection of businesses to the protection of the market, of which businesses are one of the players in the field, with dignity and equal respect to others. The Chamber of Commerce today is called upon to protect the interests of all players in the economic system to the extent that they are compatible with the more general interests of the market.
This entails a renewed sense of responsibility for the challenges that the modern world poses to those who operate within complex and globally-oriented economic realities, a commitment that needs to be combined with the ability to meet multiple needs.
