The theme of the management of large carnivores, with specific reference to the presence of bears in our mountains, was at the centre of a new discussion promoted by the provincial councillor for forests and fauna, Roberto Failoni, who this evening met in Dimaro Folgarida with the representatives of the municipal councils of the Val di Sole towns. It was an open discussion with about a hundred municipal representatives and lasted over three hours, during which the councillor and the technicians from the Civil Protection Department and the Province's Fauna Service answered the many questions raised by the local administrators, who reported on the concerns and fears experienced in a valley already touched by mourning and most recently reawakened by recent sightings such as the one a few weeks ago in the centre of Malé. "We explained what we are doing and what we will do," commented councillor Failoni, "both at the local level and in the ongoing dialogue with state bodies. Among the topics touched upon, for example, was the issue of the use of bear-proof spray - the focus of a meeting yesterday in Rome with Minister Pichetto Fratin - but also the installation of new signposts, the plan to install special bear-proof bins, and other communication activities.
"We have taken advice,' the councillor concludes, 'and answered questions, even tough ones, as is right among those who put their faces on the table,' Failoni continues, 'but this second meeting in the area, and we will have others, confirms that the path of dialogue and transparency is the right one. We must not lower our guard, to protect the communities and those who come to Trentino. To all of them we must give our utmost commitment to ensure safety and the development of the territory'.
