Safety of people, management of large carnivores and monitoring of confident specimens. It was a frank discussion that touched on every aspect concerning the presence of bears in western Trentino, the one promoted in the afternoon in Denno with the local administrators of Val di Non, Paganella and Rotaliana by the provincial councillor for craftsmanship, commerce, tourism, forests, hunting and fishing with responsibility for large carnivores, Roberto Failoni, flanked by representatives of the Fauna and Forestry Services and Trentino Marketing. A discussion as part of the consultations on the territory that is touching on the various territories concerned, with the primary objective of providing certified information on the number of specimens (a hundred in 2023 excluding the young ones less than a year old) up to prevention measures such as the installation of anti-bite bins, which are being implemented (1.5 million euro for interventions to be carried out by the summer) and protection tools. "The anti-bite spray represents an important tool, the possession of which is banned in Italy and encouraged in other European countries affected by the presence of plantigrades," recalled councillor Failoni. "For this reason, for some time now our administration has been engaged in discussions with the national government with the aim of guaranteeing its use first and foremost to forest wardens, police forces, civil protection operators and forestry workers. In the future, its use must be completely free to guarantee the safety of all those who frequent our forests".
