Geology

An understanding of the geology of our region and the processes that shape its evolution is of great importance, and has always been recognised as a priority by the Administration of the Autonomous Province of Trento. Lidar survey of the territory of the Province of Trento

LIDAR (Light -or Laser - Detection and Ranging) is an 'active' remote sensing technique that allows topographical surveys to be carried out by means of an aerial vehicle on which a laser scanner is installed that acquires data at very high speed and high resolution. Geotechnics

Geotechnical investigations aim to determine the physical and mechanical properties of natural soils and
rocks, with a view to developing a model for predicting their behaviour in the context of geotechnical design and land protection. These investigations may be carried out directly at the site in question (in situ tests) or on
samples extracted by means of mechanical drilling and taken to the laboratory (geotechnical laboratory tests).

Hydrogeology is the study of underground aquifers (i.e. geological structures containing exploitable water resources), their recharge processes and related phenomena, such as springs and karst features (caves). Understanding water circulation in the subsurface enables us to safeguard both the quantity and quality of this resource and to promote its sustainable use.

The Water Resources Charter represents a fundamental tool for the proper management of an increasingly precious resource such as water. The constant updating of this tool makes it possible to effectively protect the quality and quantity of groundwater in the provincial area, guaranteeing the safeguarding of sources intended for human consumption. Through increasingly precise and accurate mapping of the territory, the Water Resources Map makes it possible to plan urban development while respecting the environment and public health, protecting an essential natural heritage for present and future generations.
