Description
Following the entry into force of the Provincial Urban Plan (PUP), approved by Provincial Law no. 5 of 27 May 2008, and the application of Article 21 of its implementation rules, in relation to the protection of water resources for human consumption, the PUP Water Resources Map was prepared.
The aforementioned Map was approved by Resolution of the Provincial Government No. 2248 of 5 September 2008; it identifies the springs, wells and surface waters used for drinking purposes with any flow rate, including mineral water springs currently under concession, as well as springs considered strategic due to their peculiar characteristics of quality, quantity and vulnerability, even if not exploited for human use, which could constitute future reserves.
The Water Resources Map covers the whole of Trentino at a scale of 1:10,000 and identifies the following protection areas: a) absolute protection areas; b) hydrogeological protection areas; c) hydrogeological protection areas. The absolute protection areas take on different colours according to the type of resource to be protected (see the relevant legend).
The map also indicates with a blue cross all the other springs in the springs register, managed by the Geological Service.
The Water Resources Map is periodically updated by the Provincial Council, with the following modalities, reported in Resolution G.P. no. 1197 of 7 July 2023
- requests for the variation of safeguard zones or for the insertion/deletion of springs and wells with their respective constraints are submitted, both by Municipalities and by other public or private stakeholders, to the Geological Service of the Province. Requests by subjects other than Municipalities are forwarded for information to the Municipalities territorially concerned and to any concessionaires of the resource. In any case, the request shall be accompanied by a hydrogeological study drawn up by a qualified geologist, aimed at providing technical support for the request itself;
- the Geological Service provides for the technical verification of the requests and may request specific in-depth studies;
- the Geological Service communicates the variation to the Municipalities in whose territory the protection zones fall, to the applicant, to the competent services and to any interested parties.
- The updating and modification of the Water Resources Map, according to the provisions of Article 21 of the implementation rules of the new PUP, are arranged by means of a provision of the Provincial Council, which is followed by the updating of the SIAT according to Article 9 of the Provincial Law no. 1 of 4 March 2008;
