With respect to the communications given in recent days both in the House and to the fishing world, the following is clarified for correct and timely information and updates. At the meeting of the Agricultural Policies Commission on 10 March 2022, the Ministry of Ecological Transition clarified that the ban on the introduction of non-native fish species remains, as this ban is not superseded by the provision contained in the recent law of 25 February 2022 (the so-called Milleproroghe).
Given this framework, the Autonomous Province of Trento believes that the only feasible course of action is to fully implement Article 8 of the Fisheries Law, as amended by the provincial budget adjustment law of August 2021, thanks to the initiative of the Provincial Council. In fact, with this provision the Province has taken over the possibility of autonomously authorising the release of fish, even of allochthonous species, thus directly implementing the Habitats Directive. The authorisation requires the drafting of a risk study to be submitted to Ispra for its opinion; a document that has in fact been completed and, given the urgency of the matter, as early as next Monday it will be submitted, after an initial presentation that has already taken place in recent days, for a more detailed sharing with local representatives of the fishing world.
