    The sustainable generativity revolution

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - 'A sustainable future after the pandemic passes through the revolution of sustainable generativity, i.e. a new way of thinking and acting personally and collectively to create a fairer society not only in the immediate but in the long term, to leave future generations a model of development and growth that is socially and environmentally sustainable. Faced with the difficulties of a complex world and increasingly severe climate change, how can we react? What actions should be put in place? What reflections should be made on an economic system that aims at profit maximisation?

President Fugatti met with State Secretary Roberto Garofoli

An institutional meeting this afternoon between the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti and the Undersecretary of State to the Prime Minister's Office Roberto Garofoli, who was in Trento today to take part in the Festival of Economics. Garofoli, in fact, immediately after the meeting, spoke at the Teatro Sociale, at the round table 'Osservatorio Pnrr: obiettivi raggiunti e criticità', whose session was opened by the Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility Enrico Giovannini.
During the talk, the most topical issues involving our country as well as the rest of Europe were touched upon, but the desire on the part of citizens to recover optimism and trust was also emphasised, a desire that can also be perceived by the great participation in the Trento Festival of Economics' proposals, which are proving to be of great interest and quality.
The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the Province, Paolo Nicoletti, who spoke on a number of technical issues, such as restorations, the A22 project financing, and the statutory agreements between Trentino Autonomy and the national government.

    World peace, time for action!

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - Nobel Peace Prize winner Jody Williams spoke this afternoon at the Trento Economics Festival on the theme "Abandoning the economy of deterrence to ensure Peace" with a heartfelt appeal to "stand up" and do something concrete for peace. Together with her, the theologian and psychologist, Mother Noemi Scarpa, Mother Abbess of the St. Anne Benedictine Monastery in Bastia Umbra, also spoke of becoming "seeds of peace", starting from little, from everyday life. To say, to do, to position oneself even against the current and create change, to get out of the mainstream: this is the invitation to peace.

Agile working and local development: a possible liaison?

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - The pandemic is reshaping the world of work. The rise of agile working is one of the most striking novelties. The rapid growth in the number of its users has been matched by an extension of its objectives, from a mere work-life balance tool to a veritable model that promises to make work more productive, reduce polluting emissions and revitalise peripheral areas. What actions are needed for these promises to be realised? Representatives from the public sector, the corporate world and civil society gave rise to a rich discussion on the topic, moderated by Alessandra Proto, head of the OECD centre in Trento.

Minister Messa: 'Let's fund research and encourage the return of Italian researchers'

FESTIVAL ECONOMY TRENTO - Encouraging the return of Italian researchers, stimulating companies to hire new talent, encouraging girls to enrol in computer science and engineering faculties, and working hard on school orientation right from kindergarten. These are the cornerstones of the thinking that Maria Cristina Messa, Minister for Universities and Research, expressed in connection with the Festival, on the subject of research and innovation as a priority for economic growth. Growth, it was added in the discussion on the other topic, that of Industry 4.0, which necessarily passes through a cultural revolution in the country's economic policy and which can find stimulus in the funds made available by the NRP.

Labour market and trade unions, change is an extraordinary opportunity for innovation

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - The recent and sudden change in the world of work was the focus of the debate moderated by Marcello Zacchè, editor-in-chief of Il Giornale. The topic was extremely topical, given that we are emerging from a pandemic that has disrupted the way we all work and given that, in recent times, we have had the explosion of inflation, a sudden tax that affects our wages and diminishes our purchasing power. The proposed panel was hinged on two parts: a first, dedicated to the manufacturing industry and a second, dedicated to the banking industry.

'Order and disorder' in consumer choice

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - "Order and Disorder", the focus of this 17th edition of the festival dedicated to the world economy, ties in well with the theme of consumer choice addressed by Nobel Prize winner McFadden, who spoke this morning at the Sala Depero of the Autonomous Province of Trento. Today, information asymmetry and the overabundance of conditioning undermine neoclassical theory, which sees self-regulation between supply and demand at the centre of consumer choice. Instead, we are increasingly at the mercy of mechanisms that we are unable to control, partly out of laziness. The effect is that of an information imbalance that also undermines the democratic process, both commercially and politically.

For nuclear power an almost impossible challenge to renewables

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - For many, nuclear energy still represents a possible solution to the dramatic situation linked to the climate changes taking place on our planet. But the picture that emerged at this morning's meeting in the Aula Kessler of the Faculty of Sociology is certainly not in favour of a solution in this direction, at least if one looks at the state of research today. One solution in prospect could be nuclear fusion, also thanks to the international 'ITER' project. but one looks beyond 2060 for its possible use. It is therefore difficult to think today that the use of nuclear energy, even with fourth-generation reactors, can hold a candle to renewable energies, which are constantly growing and available at ever lower costs.

European Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni met with President Fugatti and Councillor Spinelli

A cordial dialogue, to discuss foreign policy, with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the consequent crisis triggered, and economic policies at international level: this morning the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni - the protagonist of the meeting at 11 a.m. in the Santa Chiara auditorium as part of the Trento Festival of Economics - met with President Maurizio Fugatti and Councillor for Economic Development, Research and Labour Achille Spinelli in the Province.
Commissioner Gentiloni, who spoke of a festival "strongly rooted with the fabric of the city", went over with President Fugatti and Councillor Spinelli some of the energy policies implemented by the European Union, focusing in particular on renewable energy sources and then on the opportunities offered by the PNRR, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Two topics were brought to the Commissioner's attention by President Fugatti: on the one hand, the resources linked to the PNRR for the strengthening of the Brenner railway corridor, and on the other, the project financing proposal for the Brenner motorway, which was recently filed with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility.
