The new complexity paradigm: from animal ecology to economic systems

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - From bees with their rigid hierarchical organisation to anthills so admirably organised that they have become examples for military strategies; from insect rituals to the complicity in certain attitudes of baboons or chimpanzees... The animal world and economic systems are not as far apart as one might think, as emerged from the discussion on 'The new paradigm of complexity: from animal ecology to economic systems'. Indeed, starting from animal behaviour and then transferring it to the individual, useful lessons can be drawn to define economic theories but, it was said, economists do not always understand this or understand it with difficulty.

What ecological and digital transition for Italy?

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - The town planning of the future? It will have to focus on people and relationships. This was reiterated - today at the Trento Festival of Economics - by the architect Mario Cucinella, the president of Trentino Sviluppo Sergio Anzelini and the deputy editor of Il Sole 24 Ore Roberto Bernabò, author of "Città Italia. The ecological and digital transition: ten experts design the urban agenda for municipalities" (E. Il Sole 24 Ore). The book recounts - through ten interviews with ten experts - the best practices adopted in different Italian territories, from Alto Adige to Sicily, in the areas of demography, urban regeneration, culture, sustainable development, technological innovation, digitalisation, participation and public green.

Energy transition and the gas crisis

FESTIVAL ECONOMY TRENTO - Italy has only one way forward in the face of an unprecedented international crisis: the energy mix. Fossil and renewable energies. Maybe nuclear. And we must export technology, as we will always be forced to import energy and raw materials. These were the conclusions of the panel that animated the Festival's event dedicated to energy transition and the gas crisis. Some of the top Italian and European experts on the subject participated.

The eagle recovered last March in the Fassa Valley released into the wild

The adult male golden eagle recovered in the snow near Soraga on 2 March last by forestry personnel from the Vigo di Fassa Station has returned to the wild. Today, in fact, the golden eagle was released in Val Monzoni (a branch of Val di Fassa).
The release was attended by Trentino Forestry Corps personnel, who, following a report from a citizen, had picked up the bird of prey and taken it to the Autonomous Province of Trento's Fauna Recovery Centre, run by LIPU, which followed all the stages of the recovery and also the subsequent release.

Future of Europe and Fiscal Policies

ECONOMY FESTIVAL TRENTO - "As long as Europe is divided on the issue of taxation, we will never have egalitarian and distributive tax policies". These are the words of Franco Gallo, president emeritus of the Constitutional Court, who spoke with Gianni Trovati (journalist for Il Sole 24 Ore) at this afternoon's meeting in Palazzo Geremia. Within the European Union, even the opposition of a single member country is enough to block any change in taxation. Gallo stated that it is crucial to overcome unanimity of votes, moving to a qualified majority, but the road to an agreement still seems difficult.

The sustainable side of the Festival of Economics 2022

The Trento Festival of Economics is also characterised by sustainability.
In light of the commitment that the Autonomous Province of Trento has made in line with the objectives of the Provincial Strategy for Sustainable Development, a path of social responsibility has been set in motion in order to make tourist presences in the territory less impactful from an environmental, economic and social point of view, including during major events.
For this edition of the Festival of Economics, it was decided to introduce a new approach in the organisation, following the Agenda 2030 goals common to all UN member states. The organisers decided to rely on the SDGs Assessment - Verification of the contribution of Organisations to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda carried out by a third-party certifying body, which, applying a specific methodology, assigns a score and issues an evaluation statement.

Pandemic and war, European banks between new and old challenges

In recent years, European banks have made enormous progress and the most important test was the pandemic, proving to be an active part of the solution to the problem. Today, much remains to be done: there are old and new challenges to face, such as the war in Ukraine, as well as digitisation and climate change. With this ongoing war, Europe has been placed at the centre of the world. But just as for the pandemic we have witnessed a more united health, so too for defence the path is set. Will European banks also be able to seize these challenges to unite and consolidate? On the endless challenges facing European banks, at the Trento Economics Festival, Isabella Bufacchi, journalist, Frankfurt correspondent for Il Sole 24 Ore interviews Andrea Enria, Chairman of the ECB's Supervisory Board.

Cingolani: 'Stop Russian gas by 2024. Let's make up for lost time for the ecological transition'

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - The process of diversification of energy sources has begun trying to make up for lost time: we are fulfilling our promise to reduce Co2 emissions by 55% by 2030: dependence on Russian gas will be zero by the winter of 2024/2025; increases of 600-700% in gas prices are unacceptable. These are the main topics touched on by the Minister for Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani at the Trento Economy Festival interviewed by Sky Tg24 and Radio 24 journalist Maria Latella, starting from the consequences on European economies of the war in Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia with the stop to the purchase of hydrocarbons decided yesterday in Brussels "with a kind of compromise".

Vereinigte Staaten gegen China: die Unordnung des 21. Jahrhunderts

The economy of the Mezzogiorno at the Pnrr

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - 40% of the national resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (82 billion euro) will be allocated to Southern Italy. An opportunity not to be missed, in an attempt to bridge the age-old gap with central-northern Italy. The production system in southern Italy is in fact weaker and less competitive than the national average: although 34% of the national population lives here, this area only develops 22% of GDP. Infrastructure is poorer in the South, while dependence on public resources and the presence of organised crime are greater. The challenge of the NRP will be to transform not only the economy, but also the social system in which citizens and businesses operate.
