"Profit is fair but gaining in humanity is worth more"

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - "The profit of the economy is fair, but to the world of business and finance I say: it is worth more to gain in humanity". A packed Blessed Sacrament church for Father Enzo Fortunato's lectio magistralis "The god money between war and peace" led the reflection on the role of politics and economics starting from the fall of ideologies at the end of the 20th century that left "a pneumatic vacuum" as the director of "Il Sole 24 Ore" Fabio Tamburini pointed out in his introduction. A theme that could not fail to touch on the figure of St. Francis, highlighted several times by the Franciscan friar creator of the Assisi Manifesto, "who stripped himself of his luxurious possessions and the god of money to embrace the God of love and fraternity".

Without good information there is no democracy

ECONOMY FESTIVAL TRENTO - Communication is a very important element of the current international crisis and increasingly also of war scenarios. In the current context there is no lack of information, but for democratic systems it is above all necessary to learn to deal with the risks of disinformation. Massimo Egidi, from LUISS Guido Carli University, Walter Quattrociocchi, from the University of Rome La Sapienza, and Carlo Ruzza, from the University of Trento, discussed this topic today in a debate moderated by political scientist Roberto D'Alimonte.

Social economy, citizen protagonism that solves crises

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - There was no trace of social economy in European documents until 2008, the year of the great subprime crisis. Then the role grew, not only as 'repairer' of market failures, but as opportunity and recomposition of social fractures. The common good is not the exclusive competence of the public but calls into question the responsibility of citizens, also as economic actors. Italy is also a reference country for the OECD. Expected for next week from the OECD Ministerial Council is a Recommendation that takes up the Italian experience. And now ISTAT will 'measure' the economic and social impact of the social economy.

Central banks facing the return of inflation

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - Inflation has exploded, calling on central banks to respond to the generalised rise in prices, which has hovered around 8% in the eurozone. It was thought to be a phenomenon destined to end soon, but it did not. Between the 'hawks' (those who want a stricter monetary policy, i.e. higher interest rates) and the 'doves' (more flexible monetary policy and lower rates), the topic of inflation control has entered the European debate in recent weeks. The European Central Bank is forced to act.

Electric cars: new frontiers of the manufacturing industry

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - A 360-degree debate on an ongoing revolution: from the traditional car to the electric car. Lights and shadows on an epoch-making transformation, which will bring unquestionable benefits to the eco-system, but which drags on many questions, including: "will jobs be lost as it has fewer components to assemble and is automated? Is lithium an infinite resource or is it better to invest in other areas, such as chemistry? There are still few recharging stations in Italy: will politics take over? The traditional car is still faster, better performing, has a wider range, while what are the advantages of an electric car? Amidst all the questions, a single axiom emerged: the choice of an electric car is not a dogma, but must be preferable for the protection of our Planet. We need to push for renewable sources, the only ones to fuel the energy transition.

Changing the development model for the ecological transition from words to deeds

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - Faced with a planet devastated and polluted to pursue profit and distribute wealth, an ecological transition is needed to continue growth but with a new DNA. Growth that respects health, people, and environmental sustainability.
