In the institutional setting of Sala Depero, at the Palazzo della Provincia in Trento, this morning the President Maurizio Fugatti and the Councillor for Economic Development, Labour, Universities and Research Achille Spinelli, kicked off a round table dedicated to an in-depth analysis and comparison of the current wage panorama in Trentino. The meeting, which involved all the business and trade union categories in the area, marked the start of an open discussion. The data presented showed a growing labour market with an absorption rate of 74%, exceeding Italy's 66%. The area shows an increase in attractiveness compared to the industrialised countries of Europe, with an employment rate of 71.8% and low unemployment at 2.9%, compared to 7.3% nationally. On the negative side, there is an inactivity rate at 26% (31% if only the female component is taken into account), which means over 88,000 people. The wage analysis reveals alignments in the North East averages for blue collar workers and apprentices, but gaps for white collar workers and managers. The gender gap is present with high male salaries and a part-time percentage at 36%, higher than the North East (33%) and Italy (31%).
At the start of the proceedings, President Fugatti emphasised that: 'We do not presume that the data shown are definitive, but we want to open a discussion starting from this photograph to understand what the sensitivities are within the Trentino system. What we are proposing today is the start of a process that will have to have a definite timeframe to see whether the data we have are considered real or improvable. It is not just sectoral data, but intersectoral data, and it has emerged that within the various sectors there are in fact different situations. Our objective is to take stock together in order to understand how we are and at the same time verify how the Province can intervene. We must not forget that the province has its own responsibilities, starting with the civil service contract."
