Description
The project at the national level began in 2001, in application of Law No. 183 of 18 May 1989 (Rules for the organisational and functional reorganisation of soil defence), with the objective of censusing landslides in a single national land register, according to a standardised methodology shared by the Regions and Autonomous Provinces. Through conventions with the State, the Regions and Autonomous Provinces have played an essential role in identifying and mapping landslides through the collection of historical and archival data, the interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys, and the computerisation and validation of data. The Province contributed to the inventory with the census of more than 9,400 landslide phenomena on the provincial territory. The Inventory is managed by ISPRA (Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale - Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) and is periodically updated on the basis of the data provided by the Autonomous Regions and Provinces. The Inventory represents a basic cognitive tool for the assessment of landslide hazard for the Hazard Map, the programming and preliminary design of soil protection interventions and infrastructure networks and for the drafting of Civil Protection Emergency Plans.
