Snow and rain are returning to Trentino. From the evening of today and until the morning of tomorrow, Saturday 9 March, light to moderate rainfall is expected, with snow levels initially above 1400 metres and falling in the night to around 1000 metres and locally to lower altitudes. Above 1,000 to 1,200 metres, between 5 and 20 centimetres of snow are expected, with the heaviest accumulations at higher altitudes in the central and southern sectors; at lower altitudes, the amount of snow will be less. From late morning to late evening on Saturday, precipitation will generally be absent; from late evening on Saturday, it will resume with greater distribution and persistence and will continue until the evening of Sunday, 10 March. During this time, the snow level will remain on average over 1500 metres or more in the eastern areas, but will drop to around 1000 metres or so lower, especially in the western sectors, in the narrower and less windy valleys, during the most intense phases and at the end of the event, when rainfall may locally take on thunderstorm character. An average of 25 to 50 cm or more of snow is expected above 1500 metres, while lower amounts are expected at lower altitudes.
Please note that from 15 November to 15 April, winter tyres or snow chains are compulsory.
