Assessing the actual avalanche risk, in order to protect the population and tourists, is the task of the avalanche commissions of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino, which use the same working methods and tools in the three areas.
The Cairos project aims to standardise and further develop the operating procedures of the avalanche commissions in the Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino, with the aim of improving both risk assessment and mutual cooperation. The members of the Euregio's avalanche commissions have already had the opportunity to participate in some training opportunities at courses held at Passo del Tonale and Canazei in Trentino, at Solda in South Tyrol, and in the past few days at Axamer Lizum near Innsbruck.
As part of the training programme, participants were able to observe the first results of Cairos. In the wide range of avalanche courses, in a mix of theoretical and practical modules, the snowpack was analysed, snow profiles were made and analysed, and stability tests were carried out
