Taxidermy and embalming: authorisation

If one wishes to carry out the activity of taxidermist and/or embalmer, in whatever form and for whatever purpose, a specific authorisation is required.

The granting of authorisation is subject to an examination to verify that the person concerned has adequate knowledge both in the field of fauna and in relation to taxidermy and embalming techniques.

Performing taxidermy or embalming in any capacity without the appropriate authorisation shall be punishable by an administrative sanction of between EUR 258.23 and EUR 516.46.

The service is aimed at anyone wishing to work as a taxidermist and/or embalmer

The interested party submits the application for authorisation to pursue the activity by one of the following methods

1. by sending it by email to the PEC address indicated on the form
2. by delivering it directly to the competent provincial structure, or to any other peripheral office of the Province
3. by sending it by registered mail with advice of receipt;
4. by sending it by fax to 0461/494747.

If the person concerned holds a valid authorisation issued by a state authority, by an authority of another Italian region or of the province of Bolzano, or by another competent local authority, this authorisation is replaced by SCIA (Segnalazione certificata di inizio attività)

The interested party must submit the application by enclosing with it

1. a list of all animals, live, dead or already prepared, in whatever capacity owned;
2. signed copy of the information notice pursuant to Articles 13 and 14 EU Regulation no. 679 of 2016;
3. copy of a valid identity document.

Starting from the day after receipt of the application.

After checking the documentation, the competent office asks the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts and Agriculture of Trento to summon the interested party to carry out the examination provided for by Provincial Law 32/1982.

If the examination has a positive outcome, the Province

1. shall grant authorisation
2. will prepare the first register ex officio. (Please note that the taxidermist/taxidermist must record daily in a special register, provided by the Provincial Administration, all data on the animals delivered to him or that come into his possession, even temporarily; subsequent registers must be requested by the taxidermist/taxidermist).

In the event of a negative outcome of the examination, authorisation will not be granted. In that case, the interested party may subsequently reapply.

Failure on the part of the structure to comply with the procedural deadline allows the interested party to apply to the Director General of the Department of Crafts, Commerce, Promotion, Sport and Tourism to urge the conclusion of the procedure.
