Description
The wetland is particularly complex from a vegetation point of view and this is also a reason for extreme interest.
There are numerous species worthy of mention for their particular naturalistic value: Eriophorum alpinum, Carex davalliana, Carex dioica, Carex lasiocarpa, Drosera rotundifolia, Primula farinosa, Bartschia alpina, Salix rosmarinifolia, Pinguicola vulgaris, Menyanthes trifoliata.
Also worth mentioning are the beautiful meadows surrounding the peat bog, consisting of Nardus stricta (Nardus stricta), whose valuable hay is also used for phytobalneotherapeutic practices.
Rich in species, even rare ones, is the population of invertebrates in the puddles dotting the peat bog; suffice it to say that the aquatic beetle Agabus nebulosus has only been found here in Trentino.
But the pools are also particularly important for the life and reproduction of amphibians. In fact, there are the mountain frog (Rana temporaria), the common toad (Bufo bufo) and the alpine newt (Triturus alpestris), species for which the puddles in the wetland provide a breeding habitat.
