Responsibilities and functions
The Bondone Reserve Network includes the mountain ridge of Soprasssso, Doss Trento and the Bondone-Stivo ridge, extending as far as the lakes of Terlago and Lamar. Also by virtue of a rugged orography that varies from the high altitudes of the Cornetto to the lower altitudes of the Terlago plain, the area is characterised by vast areas with fundamentally intact environmental conditions and many non-fragmented habitats (forest environments, secondary pastures and grasslands, etc.).
In this mountainous territory, agro-sylvo-pastoral activities have shaped a well-diversified eco-mosaic, enriched by numerous elements of naturalistic value, typical above all of open areas and ecotonal belts, although there is no lack of some conservationist emergencies.
In such a territorial context - characterised by important bodies of water set in decidedly diverse environmental frames ranging from intensive orchards, urban environments and thermophilic woods to beech, coniferous and hay meadows - for many species the level of habitat suitability in the unprotected territory is quite comparable to that of the protected areas, and in some cases it is even higher, with almost exclusive presences in areas of high naturalistic value outside the Natura 2000 sites.
The Network was therefore created with the aim of preserving and enhancing the special areas of conservation in the area under a single management, including protected sites, areas of high environmental value not yet protected and ecological corridors. The objective is to protect and improve the conservation status of environmental emergencies, as well as to enhance local cultural and historical peculiarities.
Established in 2008 by the municipality of Trento, during 2014 the Network was expanded to include the municipalities of Terlago, Garniga, Cimone and Villalagarina.
