Nature Reserves
In addition to parks, environmental values and biodiversity are protected in a multitude of smaller protected areas, classified as provincial or local reserves depending on the value of the natural features present. They consist of land, river or lake areas that are home to one or more naturalistically important species of fauna and flora, or have one or more ecosystems that are important for biological biodiversity or the conservation of genetic resources.
Provincial nature reserves are included in the Natura 2000 network, the European system of areas intended for the protection of a series of habitats, animal and plant species.
In Trentino nature reserves are managed, in many geographical areas, by Networks of Reserves.

Consult the list of areas in Trentino dedicated to the protection and maintenance of biological diversity and associated natural and cultural resources, established and regulated by law. A dedicated sheet is published for each of the areas.
Networks of reserves
Trentino has devised an innovative system to manage existing small protected areas, located in homogeneous areas, more effectively and with a bottom-up approach. This is the innovative Reti di Reserves project.
Networks of Reserves
In Trentino, amalgamations of small, naturalistically homogeneous protected areas are managed through Networks of Reserves.
In these areas local communities - public bodies, entrepreneurs, associations and private citizens - participate in the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable economic development.
To date, 10 Networks of Reserves have been established, some of which are known as Local Nature Parks or River Parks.

Biodiversity
Biodiversity, a common heritage
The Earth's true wealth is biodiversity, that is, the boundless and not yet fully understood variety of living forms and the ecological communities of which they are part.

Natura 2000
Natura 2000 is the main instrument of European Union policy for the conservation of biodiversity.
It is a system of areas designed to protect a range of habitats, animal and plant species considered worthy of protection at continental level.
It includes more than 27,000 protected areas identified by the member states and covers more than 18% of the land surface and almost 6% of the sea surface.
