Description
The reserve protects the marshy area that opens up a short distance from the road to Malga Maresse. The peat bog, fed by the waters flowing down from the Maresse Lake (a little higher up), is surrounded by sparse larch formations, which in fine weather are home to grazing cattle.
The wetland is dominated by the presence of sphagnum mosses, subject in places to colonisation by caterpillar(Calluna vulgaris) and blueberry(Vaccinium myrtillus) shrubs. During the spring, when the amount of water is greater, mountain frogs and common toads come here to breed.
Together with Maresse Lake, this local reserve is the natural complement to the nearby Monte Remà-Clevet Special Area of Conservation, protecting the delicate ecological balances that govern the environments it hosts.
