Network of Chiese Valley Reserves

From the river and lake environments that characterise the River Chiese and the Trentino banks of Lake Idro, to the high altitude habitats with the complex of peat bogs and alpine lakes culminating in Mount Remà, passing through meadows, chestnut groves and particular woodland formations: the Network encompasses a precious mosaic of nature and landscape, enriched by 5 'nodes' of the Natura 2000 Network and 6 local reserves.

Responsibilities and functions

The territory of the Network is centred on the valley floor (from Pieve di Bono to Lake Idro) and on the low and medium slopes, directly overlooking the main valley. In the north-west the area also includes high altitude and ridge environments that culminate in Mount Remà at 2376 m.

Among the most interesting environments at the bottom of the valley are those connected to the fluvial/lacustrine area, with the relative belts of herbaceous and woody vegetation. On the lower and mid-slope, meadows (and former cultivated areas), chestnut groves, as well as very special woods, with areas of turkey oak, hornbeam, yew, oak and noble broadleaf trees, are widespread.
In the area between the mid-slopes and the summit areas, the most remarkable environments can be identified in the complex of peat bogs and alpine lakes, as well as primary grasslands and areas of more or less shrub pasture.

Established in 2017 and enlarged in 2025, 7 municipalities - Storo, Bondone, Borgo Chiese, Castel Condino, Pieve di Bono-Prezzo, Valdaone and Sella Giudicarie - as well as the Comunità delle Giudicarie, the Consorzio dei Comuni BIM Chiese and the Asuc of Darzo - currently adhere to the Network.
