Description
It is a singular calcareous relief located in the highland-subalpine belt, in the northern part of the Monte Baldo chain, where the last strips of beech woodland give way to subalpine bushes and, above all, to pingual pastures, interspersed with rocky environments. Habitats of special interest that are not included in Annex I of the Habitats Directive are present, in particular the subalpine meadows (1%).
The site can boast a discrete contingent of endemic species and considerable environmental variability combined with easy accessibility, making it entirely suitable for educational use. It is also an area of international interest for the transit of many medium- and long-range migratory species in the late summer and autumn (post-reproductive migration).
Bird species subject to special conservation measures: golden eagle, red-backed shrike, alpine rock partridge, black grouse, marsh harrier, honey buzzard, black kite, ortolan.
