Economist and 2013 Nobel Prize winner Robert Shiller spoke today via video link-up at the Trento Festival of Economics to discuss how emotions and fears influence investments.
"Human behaviour has always been strongly conditioned by emotions or by narratives, by stories told by other people, about certain issues": the economist's words. Technological progress has always played an important role in this phenomenon, and today, with new technologies, narratives, whether true or false, manage to go viral and have an enormous impact on our lives, society and the markets, effectively determining their course. At the same time, however, new technologies are shaping a new scenario that we will only be able to appreciate many years from now: if we are not afraid of them and do not make them a negative narrative or a threat to our status, they will be our main allies for the future,' said Shiller.
