The work of the future: AstroSamantha's gaze meets that of Trentino school children

From science fiction to new technologies, the future has always gone hand in hand with space missions. What do those who work in that future, such as Samantha Cristoforetti, expect for the future? Her answer, at the Trento Festival of Economics, has the Moon in her eyes: 'We will leave low orbit, to return to lunar missions. This is the direction that both Nasa and Esa have taken, with the support of private entities. In particular, Italy will take the lead in developing the habitation modules, once we reach the satellite'. And for those who will remain on Earth? Imagining tomorrow's professions is the task of 70 local high school students, who are presenting various case studies, in a general overview that ranges from the support of machines in areas such as agriculture, to the permanence of creative professions in the hands of mankind.

They told their story to Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Alessia Tripodi in an Aurora Room, in Palazzo Trentini, sold-out long before the start of the debate. An audience of mostly very young people who, in an informal and entertaining meeting, listened and asked questions, curious to meet the influencers they follow on social media in person.

'The PNRR,' the Minister stressed, 'is the great opportunity that our country cannot miss. The public administration plays a fundamental role. Lollobrigida: 'Cutting down on pesticides is a way to improve food quality, but without ideology'

'Food security and international trade between conflict and climate change'. This is an extremely topical issue in light of the fact that the Earth's inhabitants have now reached 8 billion, with a climate capable of bringing flooding to Emilia Romagna this spring, a fact that opens up further scenarios of concern. This was discussed at the Trento Festival of Economics during a round table discussion with Carmel Cahill, Independent Expert, Françoise Trine, Senior Food Security Officer, A Committee on World Food Security (CFS), moderated by Stefano Schiavo, School of International Studies, University of Trento. Then it was the turn of Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister for Food Sovereignty and Forestry (remotely connected), to draw conclusions with Silvia Marzialetti, Radiocor journalist, with a focus on 'Food Security and the Protection of Made in Italy'.

How young people in Alpine regions imagine the future

The new generations were at the centre of the meeting "The futures desired by young people in the Alpine regions", held at the Fondazione Caritro as part of the second day of the Trento Festival of Economics, in the presence of Mirko Bisesti, Councillor for Education, Universities and Culture of the Autonomous Province of Trento, who greeted the many young people in the room: "The EUSALP is the youngest of the European Union's macro-strategies and is the one that starts from the bottom, from the regions of the Alpine arc, in a decision-making process that aspires through the voice of the youngest to build a sustainable future that is attentive to the issues involving the territories. Thank you, therefore, for your presence and your work'.
The starting point of the meeting was the EUSALP Youth Council's report "Aspirations for Desirable Alpine Futures", drawn up on the basis of the proposals of 90 participants in the 3 futures workshops organised by the Italian EUSALP Presidency in 2022 to discuss potential solutions to emerging issues.

The Roadshow of Sole 24 Ore and Confindustria stopped in Trentino Alto-Adige

Innovation Days, the Sole 24 Ore and Confindustria roadshow that puts the main Italian regional economic realities under the magnifying glass, is back. The second appointment of this new cycle, realised with the support of 4Manager, Elis Innovation Hub and Partner 24 ORE and organised in collaboration with Sistemi Formativi Confindustria and Confindustria Trento was held on Friday 26 May. The appointment, dedicated to Trentino Alto-Adige, was part of the Trento Festival of Economics and took place at the ITAS Forum in Trento (Via Adalberto Libera, 13). Among the topics discussed: technology and its applications in industrial case histories and innovative solutions proposed by partners and a panel on Private Capital as a resource for innovation, followed by an afternoon dedicated to Networking with the Agora. The event opened with speeches by Fabio Tamburini, Editor-in-Chief of Il Sole 24 Ore, and Alfredo Maglione, Member of the Executive Board with responsibility for Digital Transition and Technological Innovation, Confindustria Trento, who emphasised: "Understanding where we are going in order to better plan our future is a fundamental aspect, also for companies, entrepreneurs and the managers who lead them. In a highly complex scenario, we are called upon to interpret change and the importance of innovating by responsibly adopting new and powerful methods and tools: I am thinking, for example, of new paradigms and technological developments in research and industries in the most advanced sectors. It is also thanks to these tools that we can imagine and design the paths of innovation, progress and a growth strategy that we want to be inclusive and sustainable, in economic, environmental and social terms'. Following this, Andrea Berna, Head of Commercial Banking Banca Ifis, offered an overview of the importance of working as a system in order to look to the future: "Trentino is a region with a high capacity for productive diversification and in which SMEs are able to grow and establish themselves at levels of excellence at national and international level. Precisely for this reason, the sentiment of Trentino entrepreneurs remains positive despite the macroeconomic context characterised by strong geopolitical uncertainties, high inflation and greater difficulties in accessing credit. The strong ability to work as a team is in fact a positive factor that drives the development of companies in the area, which know how to impose themselves even beyond national averages in terms of innovation and attention to sustainability: two areas in which Banca Ifis, which has been at the side of SMEs for over 40 years, has always been a privileged interlocutor for companies'.

European sovereignty today and in the future, as seen by Mario Monti and Marco Buti

"Europe is built in moments of crisis,' agreed Mario Monti and Professor Marco Buti, holder of the Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa Chair at the European University Institute and former Director of Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission. 'The pandemic, for example, has opened up new unthinkable scenarios, such as a supranational management of healthcare. But, as the senator emphasised in his speech at the Trento Festival of Economics, 'the risk of fractures between countries is still high, even now, in this phase of ESM ratification in which national sovereignties prevail'. And the future? For Buti, it must push in the direction of 'not only funds but real transnational projects on topics such as green, digital and social transition; of real community goods'.

Bill De Blasio: 'Transformation is possible if the citizens want it'

The former mayor of New York, Bill De Blasio, dialoguing on the theme of cities in change with Gianluca Galletto, president of DG Advisors, and Laura La Posta, editor-in-chief of Il Sole 24 Ore, retraced the fundamental themes that during his seven years in office have characterised important actions of transformation. Three were the issues he focused on: social and sustainable housing, climate change and the migration process that can bring economic development. Addressing the many young people present in Sala Depero for the Trento Festival of Economics, he said he was optimistic for the future because social and economic transformations are possible if citizens together want to make them happen.
