The life-saving drug Baqsimi is once again being dispensed by the provincial health service. The Provincial Council, on the recommendation of Health Councillor Mario Tonina, has decided to dispense this medicine free of charge to people suffering from diabetes mellitus, around 650 in total. Since the medicine is taken by nasal spray and not by injection, Baqsimi facilitates its administration to children and adolescents, as well as in special contexts, such as schools.
"AIFA has recently reclassified the reimbursability class of the drug Baqsimi, making it now fully payable by the patient," commented Councillor Tonina. "This decision generated considerable inconvenience for diabetic patients, who found themselves paying from one day to the next a hefty fee to have a drug that is considered life-saving. In response to the many requests we received, since there are about 650 people in Trentino with diabetes mellitus, we decided to give the health authority a mandate to prepare the relevant implementation procedures'.
