Renewal of the Train Fleet

The development of a more sustainable and innovative mobility is currently of European, national and provincial strategic importance as a measure contributing to the process of decarbonisation and increasing sustainability of transport. This is the background to the commitment of the territorial public administrations, including the Province of Trento, to renew part of the train fleet for regional transport with the purchase of clean-fuel vehicles.

Having completed the process of purchasing a low environmental impact train (Pop electric train with energy savings estimated at 579 Mwh/year) to be used along the Valsugana railway line, the Alstom POP electric train was inaugurated in January 2025.

The project is connected to the electrification of the Trento-Borgo Valsugana section, so as to assist the development of rail transport in an increasingly ecological and sustainable perspective, also through greater efficiency compared to today's fleet.

Renewal of railway rolling stock for public transport services with environmentally friendly vehicles.

The Autonomous Province of Trento avails itself of Trentino Trasporti S.p.A. as second level implementing party.

The implementation of the NRP in Trentino fits coherently into the programme framework for sustainable provincial development, according to the policies identified in the provincial Economic and Financial Document and its Update Note.

Milestones met:

• 30 June 2023: signing of the contract for the partial assignment by Trenitalia to Trentino Trasporti of the framework agreement of 30 July 2021 stipulated between Trenitalia and Alstom for the supply of 1 medium-capacity train and related material logistics service for scheduled maintenance under warranty
• 30 June 2023: signing of the application contract between Trentino Trasporti S.p.A. and Alstom Ferrovia S.p.A.
• 30 June 2026: commissioning and inauguration of the Alstom POP train
