Innovation and development of Made in Italy: a future of excellence

The term 'Made in Italy' immediately conjures up images of tailor-made clothes, designer furniture and high-quality food products. However, this prestigious brand represents much more than what it appears on the surface. To attract investment and increase international competitiveness, it is crucial to enhance these sectors through innovation, research and training. Promoting the excellence of Italian products abroad also means supporting our country's economic growth.

Europe, Trentino: the Festival welcomes the European Commissioner for the Economy

The last of the many national and international political 'bigwigs' to attend the Trento Festival of Economics today, the European Commissioner for the Economy was welcomed to the Province of Trento by the president of the Trentino executive, together with the top management of Gruppo 24 Ore (president Edoardo Garrone and director Fabio Tamburini) for a brief welcome meeting just before the start of the debate dedicated to Next generation Eu: what prospects after 2026.
Several topics were discussed during the talk, starting with the growing success of the event, which has now reached its nineteenth edition and has become an authoritative point of reference for the national and international discussion of strategies, perspectives and analyses that the current economic, political and social scene presents to us.
There was no shortage of references to ongoing tensions and wars, with the inevitable repercussions also on the financial systems front, as well as to the great phenomena linked to climate change, with the example still quite close by of what storm Vaia has left in terms of a heavy legacy also in Trentino.

Europe: the reasons for abstentionism and why it is not worth it

Europe is on the threshold of the next electoral deadline. The reasons for abstentionism, but also why it is not convenient not to vote, were discussed this afternoon in the Depero Room of the Autonomous Province of Trento, together with Jaume Duch, Director General of DG Communication of the European Parliament, Lorenzo Ferrari, Editorial Coordinator of Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso-Transeuropa and Luciana Maruta, journalist, currently at the digital publication Divergente, coordinated by Michela Finizio, Journalist of 'Il Sole 24 Ore'. A wide-ranging survey carried out across Europe by these subjects, starting with Divergente, analysed the reasons for non-voting, revealing certain trends. The future of European democracy would seem to be primarily linked to the well-being of the population. The countries or regions with more abstentionism are in fact those with more elderly people, higher illiteracy rates and above all lower incomes. The reasons for non-voting, however, would be more related to a general disillusionment with politics, rather than with Europe in the strict sense. But there are also reasons to be optimistic. In fact, the participation rate in the European elections is steadily increasing: in 2014, 42% of voters voted. in 2019, 51%. In the next election, polls suggest participation could approach 60%.

Business Solidarity: 'Don't call us contributors'

What role should corporate solidarity play in supporting the third sector? Why is an inclusive social environment the humus of an economy with a human face? These questions were answered during the third panel at the Itas Forum, proposed by Trento European Volunteer Capital and promoted by the Municipality of Trento in collaboration with the organisation of the Festival of Economics. Participants included organisations such as ITASolidale, Fondazione Caritro, and Aiccon. And the message was clear: corporate solidarity does not mean charity. It means stimulating the active and concrete participation of workers in the life of local society, thanks also to corporate encouragement and support. "Our commitment is to try to activate all those relationships, those opportunities, those reflections that lead to the emergence of new ideas to accelerate the development of a territory, of communities," said Anita Penati, director general of Fondazione Caritro.

    'Science is told through emotions'

"No one will be able to understand what it means to do contemporary scientific research if you don't show emotion, if you are a cold storyteller no one will get excited. Bureaucracy, the cross and delight of democracy

Article 3. of the Constitution enshrines the equality of citizens before the law and assigns the Republic the task of removing obstacles that limit or prevent the full development of the human person and effective participation in the political, economic and social life of the country.

Around this question, moderated by Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Emilia Patta, Fabrizio Fracchia, lecturer at the Bocconi University of Milan, Remo Morzenti Pellegrini, vice-president of the National School of Administration at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Margherita Romajoli, lecturer at the University of Milan, debated today at the Festival of Economics in Trento.

The Europe we want cannot miss the ecological transition train

At the Trento Festival of Economics, the panel curated by Intesa Sanpaolo entitled 'The Europe we want' featured Mario Pianta, President of the Italian Economics Society, Salvatore Rossi, economist and former Director General of the Bank of Italy, Francesco Saraceno, Deputy Director at OFCE Sciences Po in Paris and Annamaria Simonazzi, President of the Giacomo Brodolini Foundation, moderated by Alessandra Capozzi, Sole 24 Ore Radiocor journalist. The situation in Europe is certainly not the most rosy, where the prospects for growth and quality of development are strongly conditioned by monetary policy and fiscal policy. The Europe we want must first address a cultural problem with regard to the ecological transition, the real driver of growth. We are lagging far behind and are in danger of missing that train on which other states, especially China, have long since jumped.

Employment, productivity and gross domestic product: the point with the Minister of Labour and Social Policy

In video connection with the reception hall of Palazzo Geremia, the Minister of Labour and Social Policies spoke at the Festival of Economics, dialoguing with Il Sole 24 Ore journalist Giorgio Pogliotti. Among the topics discussed were employment, training, inclusion and resources.
At the opening, some Istat data: Italy is progressively approaching the 24 million employed with 62.1% employment rate, the highest rate ever. A positive figure that, however, when compared with the European average, still sees us 13 percentage points below. This is why the government is working on several fronts. First and foremost, the employment of women and young people, with policies aimed at family reconciliation and training. In particular, the minister recalled, young people must be involved in the great challenge of the digital and green transition.
