In Trentino, it is the Autonomous Province of Trento that carries out almost all functions and, accordingly, provides citizens with almost all the public services that, in ordinary regions, are provided by the State: schools, universities, research, healthcare, welfare, land management, employment, industrial policy, transport, energy, civil protection, culture and more are provincial responsibilities, regulated, managed and funded by the Province itself, in coordination with local authorities in the area, without placing a burden on the State budget. Only a few matters reserved for the State remain excluded, such as foreign policy or public finance, as well as constitutional bodies, the exercise of jurisdiction, the Bank of Italy, tax agencies, the army, defence, law enforcement and, finally, social security.
