Historical linguistic minorities
In Trentino, the Special Statute of Autonomy, the fundamental law of this land, recognises and protects three minority populations: the Ladins, the Mòcheni and the Cimbri.
The citizens of the Valle di Fassa, the Valle dei Mòcheni and the Luserna plateau are recognised the right to preserve their specific cultural traits by learning and using their own language also at school, defining an official spelling, studying and promoting their own culture, history and traditions, and restoring old place names. But their right to emancipation and development through training and access to information in their own language, as well as participation in the political life of Trentino is also supported.
