Mining activities
The sector includes the planning and supervision of mining activities for quarries and mines.
As far as quarries are concerned, the Province exercises a governing role through planning (provincial plan for the use of mineral substances) called the 'Quarry Plan'.
The municipalities approve the implementation programme that establishes the criteria and methods for the use of the areas identified by the Quarry Plan and issue the mining titles for the exercise of quarry activity (authorisations and concessions) on the opinion of the interdisciplinary technical committee for quarries.
With regard to mining, which includes solid minerals and mineral and thermal waters, the Research and Mining Service directly provides for the granting of exploration permits and mining concessions, in addition to supervising and monitoring all provincial mining activities.

Mining sector: mineral waters and solids
In Trentino there are natural resources such as bottled mineral waters, thermal waters and solid minerals which, due to their physical and chemical characteristics, are considered raw materials. The exploitation of these natural resources is subject to mining regulations and therefore to the regulations on mining activities (authorisations to prospect for and exploit the resource)

Mineral and thermal waters
Natural mineral waters are considered to be those waters which, having originated from an underground water table or deposit, come from one or more natural or drilled sources and which have special hygienic characteristics and, where appropriate, properties favourable to health.
Natural mineral waters used for therapeutic purposes are considered to be thermal waters.
