Mining activities
This sector covers the planning and supervision of extraction activities in quarries and mines.
With regard to quarries, the Province exercises a regulatory role through planning (the provincial plan for the use of mineral resources), known asthe ‘Quarry Plan’.
The local councils approve the implementation programme, which sets out the criteria and procedures for the use of the areas identified in the Quarry Plan, and issue mining licences for quarrying operations (authorisations and concessions) on the advice of the Interdisciplinary Technical Committee for Quarries.
With regard to mines, which include solid minerals and mineral and thermal waters, the Industry, Research and Mining Service is directly responsible for granting exploration permits and mining concessions, as well as for supervising and monitoring all provincial extraction activities.

Mining sector: mineral waters and solids
The Trentino region is home to natural resources such as mineral waters suitable for bottling, thermal waters and solid minerals which, due to their physical and chemical properties, are regarded as raw materials. The exploitation of these natural resources is subject to mining regulations and therefore to the legislation governing extractive activities (authorisations for the exploration and exploitation of the resource).
Bottled mineral and thermal waters
Natural mineral waters are considered to be those waters which, having originated from an underground water table or deposit, come from one or more natural or drilled sources and which have special hygienic characteristics and, where appropriate, properties favourable to health.
Natural mineral waters used for therapeutic purposes are considered to be thermal waters.
