Italy 5G Plan

The project aims to provide 5G connections in market failure areas, i.e. areas where no mobile networks have been implemented, or where only 3G networks are available and no 4G and/or 5G mobile networks are planned in the near future, or where there is a demonstrated market failure.

5G will not only ensure greater bandwidth availability for mobile connections, but will also enable the deployment of an (IOT) sensor network to support public administration services.

It is planned that 90% of the provincial territory will be covered by the main operators over the next five years, with the first activations of the service in Trento taking place during 2021.
The 'densification' tender envisages the construction of five new 5G installations.
The 'backhauling' component of the call consists of the upgrading of existing mobile radio networks, through the fibre-optic connection of 118 existing installations.

The budget is defined by the publication of two tenders.

The 5G (densification) call for tenders of 21 March 2022, envisages a maximum economic value of the contribution granted of 345,716,657 euros organised in 6 lots. Trentino is included in lot 3 (Autonomous Province of Trento and Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Lombardy, Sardinia), a contribution of 1,500,000 Euro is foreseen.

The 5G (backhauling) notice of 21 March 2022, envisages a maximum economic value of the contribution granted equal to 725,043,820 euros organised in 6 lots. Trentino is included in lot 2 (Autonomous Province of Trento and Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia), a contribution on the territory equal to 10,000,000.00 Euro is foreseen
