Investments in sewerage and purification

The modernisation of the sewage and purification network is a major issue in Italy, which has led to some infringement proceedings by Europe. The plants will follow, where possible, the 'green factories' model, so as to allow the recovery of energy and sludge and reuse the purified waste water for industrial or irrigation purposes.

Specifically for Trentino, two project proposals submitted by the Province of Trento to the Ministry were considered eligible:

Mezzana - Adaptation of the wastewater treatment plant

San Zeno - Dermulo - Construction of the inter-municipal black sewer collector

Under the overall objective of Component 4, which aims to ensure the sustainable management of water resources throughout the entire cycle and the improvement of the environmental quality of inland and maritime waters, the investment aims to make wastewater purification more effective also through technological innovation.

The implementation of the NRP in Trentino fits coherently into the programme framework for sustainable provincial development, according to the policies identified in the provincial Economic and Financial Document and its Update Note.

PNRR funding: € 5,575,000

Supplementary PAT funding: € 1,371,238.04

The Programme Agreement with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security was approved on 10 May 2024. For the upgrading of the Mezzana purification plant, the investment includes an innovative membrane compartment solution. The work to move the medium-voltage power line is completed and the supply tenders have been awarded. Completion of the investment by March 2026. For the construction of the Sanzeno - Dermulo inter-municipal sewerage collector, work is in progress and should be completed by December 2025.
