Connected schools

Today, 75% of the school buildings in Trentino, 339 out of 455, are reached by fibre optic connectivity or other technology.

Thanks to the interventions already planned, this percentage will reach 90%.

The remaining 50 schools not yet reached by any network will be connected at 1 Giga bits per second thanks to the "Fibra ottica nelle scuole" (Fibre optics in schools) project , taking advantage of the reuse and upgrading of available infrastructures.

Provide schools with Internet access based on 1 Gbit/s connectivity in access, with at least 100 Mbit/s symmetrically guaranteed up to the Internet exchange points, in order to

• equip Trentino schools with modern technological solutions and teleducation platforms
• offer future generations the best possible education
• guarantee all students the same opportunities

The investment, worth a total of EUR 13.6 million, includes the use of FSC - Fund for Development and Cohesion resources amounting to EUR 4.2 million.

The 'Connected Schools Plan' within the framework of the PNRR provides for the province of Trento about EUR 881,000 for the connection by 2025 of a further 48 schools currently connected with minor technologies.

As of June 2023, approximately 64% of schools in Trentino were connected to a speed of 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps, compared to an Italian average of 58% (source: dashboard of the Ministry of Economic Development).
