Description
The wetland forests in this area represent an important landscape element for ecological connectivity in the valley bottom. They are vegetation formations affected by an increasing contraction and discontinuity, threatened by various forms of anthropic impact: river regulation, reclamation for agricultural or recreational purposes, water abstraction.
In the area one encounters the typical riparian environments of the Chiese river, with tree species adapted to very wet soils (willows, poplars and alders). In this stretch, the irregularity and different grain size of the gravel bed creates different microhabitats, alternating shallow areas with high turbulence(riffle), with sites where the water is deeper and forms small pools with slow-flowing water(pool).
