Local reserve

Cariceto with sphagnum trees occupying the entire field of Malga Pra' di Saènt, above the famous waterfalls of the same name, in Alta Val di Rabbi, municipality of Rabbi.

The local reserve is included in the much larger Natura 2000 areas ZSC Alta Val di Rabbi and ZPS Stelvio and is located within the borders of the Stelvio National Park.

Alta Val di Rabbi

Special Area of Conservation (SAC)

Superb example of an alpine valley in a metamorphic mountain range, with glacial cirques, small lakes, peat bogs and cryonival phenomena of great interest, also for the aspect connected with the vegetation cover.
Excellent state of conservation. The site is of relevant national and/or provincial interest for the presence and reproduction of endangered animal species, important glacial relicts, exclusive and/or typical of the Alps.

Stelvio

Special Protection Area (SPA)

A vast mountainous area in the central Alps furrowed, in the Province of Trento, by three alpine valleys of glacial origin on the southern slope of the Ortles-Cevedale group.
The head of the valleys is bordered by a circle of peaks reaching up to 3,000 m and the environments are characterised by alternating glacial cirques with alpine lakes and small peat bogs. There are vast glaciers and impressive moraine deposits.
The vegetation is represented by coniferous larch and spruce forests, interrupted by vast pasture clearings of secondary origin, which are followed at high altitudes by subalpine heaths and alpine pastures.

Stelvio National Park

The Stelvio National Park, with its 130,734 hectares, is one of the largest national parks in Italy.
Established in 1935, it is among the first national parks in Italy. It was created to protect the flora, fauna and beautiful landscape of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range, and to promote the development of sustainable tourism in the Alpine valleys of Lombardy, Trentino and South Tyrol.

I approximately 17,000 hectares of the Trentino sector of the Park include the municipalities of Peio, Rabbi and Pellizzano (Val di Sole).
