Description

An Alpine valley of glacial origin on the southern slope of the Ortles-Cevedale range, formed by alternating glacial cirques with alpine lakes and small peat bogs. The head of the valley is bordered by a circle of peaks reaching up to 3,000 metres.
The vegetation consists of coniferous forests (larch and spruce), which are followed at high altitudes by subalpine heaths and alpine pastures.
Habitats of special interest not included in Annex I of Directive 92/43/EEC are present, in particular: Calamagrosto villosae - Abietetum albae, Caricion fuscae and Caricetalia curvulae.
