Description

The interest of the site is linked to the particular submerged vegetation that populates the watercourses flowing within the area. The structure of the hydrographic network, with unregulated and slow-flowing waters, is a fine example of the original appearance of these places.

This diversity of microhabitats is able to host an equally diverse number of species. The clear, placid waters of the Rio Lora are home to a rich aquatic vegetation with species that are now difficult to encounter: water lentil(Lemna minor), water milfoil(Myriophillum spicatum), along with a few specimens of brazil(Potamogeton perfoliatus) and waterbuttercup (Ranunculus tricophyllus).

The not too strong current also creates the ideal habitat for the burbot (Lotalota), a bottom fish with nocturnal habits, and the vairon(Telestes multicelles), a small cyprinid that loves well-oxygenated running water with a stony bottom. The colourful kingfisher(Alcedo atthis) also frequents these areas, favoured by the naturalness of the banks, where it digs its burrows leading to its underground nest.
