Description
The small lakes are of glacial origin: the smaller one rises at 1909 metres and the southern one at 1922 metres, a short distance from the Colbricon Refuge. These stretches of water are surrounded by dwarf shrubs, rhododendrons and junipers. From here, the Colbricon peak, an area that was the scene of war between the Italians and the Austrians between 1915 and 1918, can be seen opposite.
The Colbricon Lakes are also an interesting area from an archaeological point of view. Important finds dating back to the Mesolithic period were found on the shores of the lakes, indicating a settlement of hunters who worked flint to produce various objects for hunting and everyday use.
