Responsibilities and functions
In the eastern sector of Trentino, the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park extends across the upper valley of the Cismon Torrent. To the east it includes the Trentino part of the Pale di San Martino Dolomite Group, which constitutes system 3 of the World Heritage Dolomites. To the west it includes the eastern offshoots of the Lagorai chain, formed by porphyry, and the Cima d'Arzon mountain range, areas that constitute sites of community importance within the European 'Natura 2000' network.
To the north, defined by the Lagorai slopes and those of the Cima Bocche Group, the valley of the Travignolo Torrent hosts the Paneveggio State Forest, one of the most famous forest complexes in the Alps.

as part of the reportage "World Heritage Dolomite Parks
made by Ivo Pecile and Marco Virgilio for the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation.
It was established in 1967 and expanded in 1987 with the aim of protecting natural and environmental features, promoting scientific study and the social use of environmental assets.
On the Park territory, in a relatively restricted spatial area, a great variety of ecological situations alternate, giving rise to naturalistic realities of extraordinary interest and biodiversity.
Villa Welsperg, in Val Canali, is the 'House of the Park' and illustrates the different contexts of the Park in a recently renovated exhibition itinerary. In the surrounding meadows, the 'Le muse Fedaie' trail recounts the extraordinary biodiversity of the Val Canali. The Terra-forest centre of Paneveggio is dedicated to the great spruce forest, now known to all as the Violin Forest for the quality of its resonance spruces used by violin makers in the past. Not far away, a large enclosure allows close observation of deer. The small visitor centre in San Martino di Castrozza allows visitors to learn more about the naturalistic aspects of the climate, geology, palaeontology, environments and high-altitude animals of this protected area. The Vanoi ethnographic path - ecomuseum illustrates the way of life of what was once the subsistence economy linked to livestock farming and the cultivation of fields and forests.
The President of the Park is Valerio Zanotti, elected by the Management Committee at its meeting on 15 March 2021.
