The data on the increase in contagions on the one hand, but also the substantial resilience of the hospital system on the other, were the focus of the task force meeting convened this morning by the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti. 'Compared to a year ago,' the president commented, 'the difference is made by the only weapon we have: vaccines. And the result is to be sought not so much in the number of contagions, which is inevitably conditioned by the emergence of continuous variants, but in the number of hospitalisations, which even in these days of a peak remains constant and currently under control'. The invitation of the health authorities remains that of respecting the rules, distance and mask in primis, but above all to vaccinate. "Science tells us that vaccination is effective," adds Fugatti, "so our efforts should be directed towards third dose recalls and towards administering the vaccine to those who have not yet received it.
Considerations that are also reflected in the need to update the rules that have so far governed the behaviour of those who have contracted the virus or those who have been in contact with a positive: 'It is clear,' comments Fugatti, 'that we must avoid blocking the country again, so quarantine must be rethought in the light of the actual risk a person runs; the data show that vaccines slow down the spread of the virus and above all reduce the possibility of the infection becoming so strong that it forces a sick person to be admitted to intensive care.
