It is essential to meet the need to find new solutions to balance environmental protection and the further development of the traffic route for goods and people. This was the crux of the institutional meeting in Vienna between Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and Province President Maurizio Fugatti accompanied by Italian Ambassador Stefano Beltrame. Precisely in order to tackle this problem, the two interlocutors hypothesised a confrontation between Trentino, South Tyrol, Tyrol and Bavaria in order to turn the problem around and hypothesise some solutions. The Austrian exponent said he was very interested in the A22 model on the transport digitalisation system taking place in Trento and Bolzano, with the aim also of sorting traffic through the application of differentiated tolls according to both the environmental class of vehicles, favouring the least polluting ones, and the number of trucks in transit. The higher the emissions, the higher the toll, and vice versa. Furthermore, the toll is higher if more truck drivers use the motorway on a given day. In order to avoid congestion and thus higher costs, hauliers will therefore be able to choose for themselves when to make their journey and book it.
"The meeting with Minister Schallenberg was very fruitful, concrete and cordial," said Fugatti. "The discussion confirmed the importance and necessity of putting in place a common strategy for the full development of the Brenner corridor, a strategic work to ensure sustainability for the mobility of the future and further competitiveness for the territories of the Alpine arc involved.
