Scattered showers and thunderstorms on the way

From late afternoon today, Thursday 2 June, and until Tuesday of next week, summer weather is expected, but scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop, which could be locally severe, with heavy rainfall, hail, lightning and strong wind gusts.
The forecast is uncertain, but the development of thunderstorms seems more likely in the evening today and overnight, in the afternoon-evening on Friday and in the afternoon-evening on both Sunday and Monday. Rainfall is likely to be more widespread on Tuesday, with a sharp drop in maximum temperatures.

Province, President Fugatti welcomes Cardinal Ravasi

The President of the Autonomous Province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti welcomed Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, guest of the Trento Festival of Economics, to the headquarters in Piazza Dante. "A moment to welcome Cardinal Ravasi, a person of profound culture and sensitivity, to Trentino and to the House of Autonomy, whom I thank for having accepted the invitation to participate in the Trento Festival of Economics and in particular in the opening ceremony. He offered us a reflection on 'A new philosophy of development, between ethics and spirituality', which is certainly one of the most eagerly awaited contributions of this 17th edition, which opened with an excellent turnout of public and many young people'. These were Fugatti's words before participating with the cardinal in the inauguration at the Teatro Sociale.

After Covid, China's economy ready to restart

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - The effects of Covid on globalisation have been felt (and the effects still linger) heavily. The total blockade of the movement of people and goods has disconnected the national economy of the world's second (or now first) economic powerhouse China. The globalised economy has come to a halt to some extent, but the new economic strategies with the disappearance of the lockdown will not revive Beijing's economy in the second half of the year. This is the analysis of Professor Huang Yiping, director of the Institute of Digital Finance at Peking University with a leading role in the People's Bank of China, in conversation with Giovanni Tria, former minister and honorary professor of economics at Tor Vergata University in Rome.

Trento Festival of Economics: start with a bang

It is Republic Day, but the festive atmosphere also characterises the Festival of Economics, which started this morning with a large audience of mostly young people.
The rooms were packed at Palazzo Geremia, for the dialogue between Ambassador Giampiero Massolo (President of Ispi and Atlantia) and Giuseppe De Bellis, Director of Sky TG24, as well as at the Palazzo della Regione for a highly applauded Tawakkul Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner. And then the Sala della Cooperazione for the meeting 'Art 45, the Constitution and cooperatives: an indissoluble bond', the Filarmonica where a large audience followed Giovanni Tria.

Cooperation's new role in rebuilding the country after the pandemic

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - The Constituent Fathers of the Italian Republic, in 1947, found in Cooperation a precious tool to rebuild the country from the rubble of war, so much so that they recognised its social function in Article 45. Today, as Italy celebrates Republic Day, Cooperazione is once again the protagonist of a new reconstruction of the country, which has been overwhelmed by the material and immaterial rubble caused by the pandemic, the nearby war and the energy and environmental crises.
This was discussed at one of the first appointments of the Festival, entitled 'Article 45, Constitution and Cooperatives an indissoluble bond', moderated by Corriere della Sera journalist Dario di Vico, which recently concluded in the new inCooperazione hall in via Segantini. A curiosity: an original copy, belonging to Alcide Degasperi, of the 1947 Constitution of the Republic, strictly open on Article 45, was exhibited at the conference.

The new challenges of space diplomacy

FESTIVAL ECONOMY TRENTO - How the geopolitics of space is changing: a debate on a topic of strategic importance on the international scene today at the Teatro Sociale, in the second of the event's opening events, with special guests. Introduced by Roberto Battiston, Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Trento, and former President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the meeting developed with speeches by Marta Dassù, Senior Advisor at The Aspen Institute and Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2011-2014, Plinio Innocenzi, Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the University of Sassari, with experience as scientific attaché at the Italian Embassy in Beijing, and Jean-Jaques Tortora, Director of the European Space Policy Institute in Vienna.
The speakers initially retraced the historical stages of space programmes, in the light of current events, drawing an interesting picture of the balance and potential represented today by expansion into space, in overcoming a frontier that has always been the dream of mankind.

Nobel Prize winner Phelps: we must return to innovation from below to grow

TRENTO ECONOMY FESTIVAL - Central in the thinking of economist Edmund Phelps, who spoke a short while ago at the 17th edition, is the connection between development and innovation. It is a combination that represents a major challenge for the entire industrialised world, and even more so for western countries, because only innovation can restore the future of their economies.

    A warm May, Meteotrentino's analysis

May 2022 resulted with very uneven rainfall and almost everywhere below average, while temperatures were much higher than average. It will be remembered not only for the very high temperatures but also for the hailstorms that locally affected Trentino. The month was characterised by above-average temperatures, especially in the second ten days, when the maximum temperatures were typically summery. Rainfall, mainly in the form of showers and thunderstorms, even intense ones, was distributed throughout the month. The most intense disturbance occurred on Saturday, 28 May when, in the afternoon-evening, intense rainfall mainly affected the areas of Storo, Trento and Valsugana.
