The three radars installed at the Marmolada Refuge by the Civil Protection, Forestry and Fauna Department of the Autonomous Province of Trento, under the supervision of geologist Nicola Casagli, are operational and have so far recorded no movements. The instrumentation will make it possible to understand what is happening and provide greater security for the operators carrying out the recovery operations.
It consists of three radars - specifically a doppler radar and two radar interferometers - that give the possibility of measuring at a distance, in conditions of absolute safety and with high precision all the movements of the upper part of the glacier and the surrounding rocks.
"The two radar interferometers," explains the geologist leading the working group, Nicola Casagli, "have been operational since last night, have been collecting data all night long, and have not recorded any movements. The doppler radar, on the other hand, has been operational since this morning and has the ability, unlike the interferometer radar, to see rapid and sudden movements that have no precursors. This is why we decided to install both technologies.
