A press conference was held today, 14 July 2022, in Rome, at the headquarters of the Conference of the Regions, convened by the Agricultural Policies Commission, which was attended by Councillor Zanotelli together with his colleagues from the other regions (in attendance and by video link-up), with which the Commission wished to bring the emergency linked to the spread of wild boar throughout the country once again to the attention of public opinion.
During the press conference, an alarm was raised with reference to four main areas linked to the wild boar's presence the devastation of land that is compromising several harvests with very significant economic damage to agriculture in our country, prevention with respect to the spread of African swine fever, the safety of citizens, increasingly threatened by the presence of wild boars even in built-up areas or tourist spots and the frequency of road accidents, often even serious ones, the problems linked to urban decorum, which suffers obvious damage to its image, linked to the presence of herds, with negative repercussions on tourism.
The regional and provincial councillors therefore united in urging the government to finally complete those changes to the sector's regulations that the regions - particularly those with ordinary statutes - have been demanding for years and that would make it possible to use important levers to contain the phenomenon within acceptable limits, even with temporary actions.
