In Val di Fassa, the emergency phase, which has seen the involvement of the volunteer fire brigades of Pozza and Mazzin since Friday evening, assisted by colleagues of the district Unions of Fassa, Fiemme, Primiero, Valsugana and Tesino, has come to an end. On behalf of the municipalities concerned, the companies intervened today to carry out the final cleaning and restoration operations, as well as to cut down the dangerous plants lapped by the mudslides.
Following the inspection by the Autonomous Province of Trento's Geological Service upstream of the Muncion settlement (hamlet of San Giovanni - Sèn Jan), it was decided in the early afternoon not to proceed with the blasting of the boulder located a short distance from a house. The technicians ascertained that the water bomb did not cause any movement of the rock - which is 400 cubic metres in size - and therefore the last five evacuees were also able to return home. However, geologists have decided - as a precautionary measure - to consolidate the rock by building concrete buttresses, which will support part of the large boulder and protect it from possible future erosion.
