Bebe Vio and Castrogiovanni, a deep friendship that overcomes all obstacles

The two guests of the last appointment of the Sports Festival, great friends and often together for different projects, shared memories, emotions and moments of fun at the Santa Chiara Auditorium in Trento. Bebe Vio told how her Academy, aimed at both able-bodied children and those with physical problems, was born: 'My big dream since I was a child,' she explained. Martin Castrogiovanni, on the other hand, emphasised the naturalness with which Vio describes herself as lucky: 'It is nice that you say it simply,' he explained, 'because it can be inspiring'. The Italian rugby player then explained the importance of his personal sports school, where young players can become men with important values.

Alex Schwazer, glory is for those who never give up

Not all the paths of sports stars are linear. Among the most bumpy and impervious is that of a champion who was, at the same time, a big name in our sport, a culprit and a victim: Alex Schwazer. In the highly participative and emotional encounter, curated by Gazzetta dello Sport columnist Franco Arturi, the humanity behind the champion, his victory, his fall and his persecution emerges.

    Paolo Maldini, Milan champion

'For me, this Milan team is even stronger than last year'. Paolo Maldini inflamed the Rossoneri people at the Trento Sports Festival. Rossoneri jerseys number three displayed like simulacra on the balconies of the Teatro Sociale. Measured, calm, analytical, elegant even with his words, as he was on the pitch, the Captain, now head of the technical area of the Diavolo, reasoned across the board about the Milan world of yesterday and today. Also of tomorrow, thanks to the Maldini dynasty, which began with Cesare and is ready to continue with Daniel and Christian. Applause and stadium cheers for a champion who represents continuity in the history of Milan.

Pilato and Martinenghi, the winning young generation of Italian swimming

In recent years they have lined up an incredible series of successes and medals that have propelled them into the Olympus of international swimming. They are the swimmers Benedetta Pilato and Nicolò Martinenghi, protagonists this morning at the Auditorium S. Chiara of the meeting scheduled for the last day of the Sports Festival. With all the sympathy of her seventeen years Benedetta Pilato recounted the emotions of her triumphs, being world record holder in the 50-metre breaststroke and reigning world and European champion in the 100-metre breaststroke, without forgetting the bitterness of the Tokyo Olympics. Those Olympics in which Martinenghi, gold medallist in the 100 breaststroke and in the 4x100 mixed with the European record and silver medallist in the 50 breaststroke at the World Championships in Budapest, won the bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke and in the 4x100 mixed metres.

    Tortu: 'Direction first, then speed'

'First the direction, then the speed'. There is a lot of Filippo Tortu in this maxim that stands out in his Instagram bio. And in the meeting with the evocative title 'I'm going to 200', the Olympic gold medallist confirmed himself as a special person within the circus of world athletics. It was not for nothing that Filippo stepped onto the stage in Sala Depero, his hair a little longer than usual, and began by reciting a piece he had written himself from a lectern. About what? On the emotions linked to that magical Japanese relay race: 'The fastest and most interminable seconds of my career. A hundredth, it can't be. But we are the champions. It's been a year but nobody can take those memories out of my mind'.
The sprinter immediately opens up: 'I didn't want to celebrate the anniversary but then I did. And it still moves me and at that Olympics I cried everything. I wished as a child to be and run in a stadium. In primary school I said I wanted to win the Olympics and it was, is, an almost impossible feat. It was data in hand, ours, other people's. Every time I looked towards the grandstand, I started crying again, in fact I did it even louder. They called me a whiner the whole time.

Inclusion, freedom and the will to improve: the values of sport in the books presented at the Festival

A sunny Sunday morning in Trento's Piazza Duomo accompanied the presentation of three very special books: 'La rossa volante' with champion Francesca Porcellato and Matteo Bursi, 'Respirazione e high performance' with fencer Arianna Errigo and apneist Mike Maric, and 'Fuori dalla mischia' with rugby player Maxime Mbandà. A morning dedicated to the values of sport that helps people get back up even in the most difficult moments. "Because sport - this was the message launched on the occasion - has no distinctions and is beautiful all round".

    Women's Serie A: footballers' profession

Continuous growth, with some acceleration and inevitable braking. Women's football does not stand still. Visibility and audience must be built step by step. With the far-sightedness of the institutions, with the commitment of the clubs (who see it as an investment and not a cost), with the grassroots movement and the technical skills of the many girls who make it to the Serie A, this year rightly recognised with professionalism. Because women's football has its peculiarities, but rights must always be equal for all.

So Ruggero Tita dominates the waves

The water did not fascinate him. He was a bit bored and on his father Mauro's boat offshore in Lake Caldonazzo he played with toy cars in the cockpit (wearing a life jacket) rather than learning to sail. He preferred skiing to sailing until one day, after his first courses and regattas, he decided to focus on water sports. A choice that led him, at a very young age (he was 12), to join the national team to win the title of Italian Optimist class champion the following year. Since then, for Ruggero Tita, 30, it has been a crescendo until he won the world championship and Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020 with his catamaran in the Nacra 17 class with bowwoman Caterina Banti. The importance of 'choice' was the theme of the Trentino champion's meeting at the Trento Sports Festival.

On the trail of myth (and ritual): Hervé Barmasse calls for respect for the mountain

In one of the appointments on the final day of the Sports Festival, the meeting with mountaineer Hervè Barmasse at Trento's Teatro Sociale, much was said about the criticality of the mountain environment and the need to regain respect for the mountains. Once upon a time reaching eight thousand metres was an achievement of the few, Barmasse explained, today with technology times have changed and anyone, even without great training, can climb peaks that were once reserved for a small group of professionals. Son, grandson and great-grandson of mountaineers, the expert recounted his experiences: climbing eight-thousanders was a big dream in his family, he added, and compared to Trentino, I would like to live there.

Brignone-Compagnoni, the blue queens of the snow

Federica the Italian record holder for World Cup successes (20) and the only Italian to win the overall crystal ball, Deborah three times Olympic champion and as many times rainbow winner. They came together on the stage of the Santa Chiara Auditorium to compare two very different careers and styles, as shown by the skis used by one and the other in different eras, introduced during this morning's event. Both entered the hearts of the Italians who rejoiced at their victories. On the horizon a common challenge, the 2026 Olympics in Milan-Cortina: Compagnoni will be there as ambassador, Federica does not close the doors to her possible participation.

Bebe Vio and her 'brothers': 'Sport makes us all equal'

The 'cyclone' of energy and sympathy that answers to the name of Bebe Vio 'hit' the Sports Festival. The Paralympic, world and European fencing champion filled the Falconetto room of Palazzo Geremia, in Trento, together with the other three athletes of the Art4Sport association Riccardo Bagaini, Lorenzo Marcantognini and Alessandro Sbuelz to publicise WEmbrace Sport, the event she organised to 'remove the prefix para from our sport': Beatrice's goal is precisely inclusion, because on 10 October at the Allianz Cloud in Milan she and her colleagues will be on the pitch together with great sports personalities who to call 'able-bodied' at this point even seems unfriendly. Indeed, the stories of Bebe, Riccardo, Lorenzo and Alessandro have shown how sport can make diversity normal.

There is only one Italian team that has won the Davis Cup. It is "The Team", the one composed of Adriano Panatta, Paolo Bertolucci and Corrado Barazzutti, who in 1976 in Santiago de Chile won the main team competition in tennis for the first and only time. A story recently told by Sandro Veronesi in a docuseries and retraced tonight at the Auditorium Santa Chiara.
