After an exceptionally warm start to the year, cooler air will start to flow in tomorrow - Saturday 7 January - and temperatures in the mountains will return to values more in line with and close to the average for the period. On Sunday 8 January, an Atlantic disturbance will affect the Alps with initially weak scattered precipitation in the morning, more intense and widespread in the afternoon evening and in the night on Monday. The snow level is estimated at about 1,300 - 1,500 metres or more in the southern sectors, 1,000 - 1,300 metres in the north and in the less ventilated valleys, but it is not excluded that snow or snow mixed with rain (with possible no or very low accumulations) could locally fall even below 1,000 metres during the most intense phases and in the less ventilated valleys, especially in the western sectors. Above 1,500 to 1,700 metres, 10 to 30 centimetres or more of snow are likely, with the highest values in the southern sectors and at high altitudes; generally lower quantities at lower altitudes. Monday residual rainfall in the morning and moderate strengthening of the winds from the north. Tuesday no rain with temperatures close to average.
