Description
Provincial Law no. 16 of 28 December 1984 regulates animal reproduction with the aim of encouraging the improvement and development of livestock in the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Here are some key aspects of the law:
Artificial Fertilisation:
In the Province of Trento, artificial insemination on equines can only be performed by veterinarians
It can be performed by veterinarians or practical operators authorised by the region and registered in specific lists.
Practical operators must have passed an aptitude course, while veterinarians must be registered in the professional register.
All fertilisation operations must be recorded on a special register .
For bovine semen, the bulletin can be obtained from the Provincial Breeders' Federation;
For equine semen, vets request it from the Agricultural Service.
Taurine Mountaineering Stations
Private stud station: it concerns a stable with a licensed bull, used only for cows on the same farm.
Itdoes not require authorisation, but the manager must report the presence of the bull to the Agricultural Service, ensure that the bull is licensed and certify the mounts on a register.
The bull must be registered in the herd book and have a natural mating licence issued by the Agricultural Service.
Public stud farm:
A licensed barn with a licensed bull, also used for cows of other breeders. It follows the same rules as the horse stud station.
The bull-breedingbulletin is requested from the Agricultural Service and consists of three copies. It serves for the registration of the calf in the herd book.
Horse Breeding Stations:
Breeders who intend to use purebred stallions must apply for authorisation to run the stud station and check that the stallion is also licensed in the Province of Trento. The mounts must be registered on the studbook.
Natural private stud-racing for equines is regulated by the same rules as public stud-racing, thus requiringauthorisation from the Agricultural Service and certification of suitability by the local veterinarians.
The stallion must have anatural stud licence issued by the Servizio Agricoltura (which verifies entry in the studbook and health requirements). This provincial licence must be applied for by the owner and renewed every five years.
At the beginning of each year, the stud farm manager must send the Agricultural Service a communication on the use of stallions, enclosing the veterinary certificate and the previous year's bills.
The bulletin (fertility intervention certificate) has three copies and is used to register the foal in the studbook.
