"It is an order that leaves us perplexed, and makes us wonder whether the life of an animal or that of a human being is worth more'. This is how the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, commented on today's order of the Council of State, which suspended the killing of JJ4 and MJ5, confirming the latter's power of captivity.
"After all that has happened, the grief and mourning, the concerns of our community, I wonder if there is still respect for human life, but also for the mountain communities of Trentino, which are forced to live daily with the presence of dangerous specimens that put public safety at risk," he said.
"The spirit of today's order by the Council of State is the same as the one that prevented the capture of JJ4, which was later responsible for a deadly attack last April,' continues the president of the province. In the next few hours we will analyse in detail every legal implication of this latest act, but beyond what was decided today by the Council of State, I can assure you that together with the entire Council we will continue to work to ensure maximum security for the Trentino community, aware and convinced that the only way to fully guarantee it is to take swift and timely measures that also make it possible to cull the dangerous specimens.
President Fugatti also confirmed his commitment to the plan to contain the specimens, which is currently being examined by the competent ministry, 'a plan that we consider necessary because the size of our territory is not compatible with the number of specimens present today'.
