From November 2018 to date, 144 out of 166 municipalities in Trentino, in peripheral areas, have been reached by the public fibre optic network. The appointment of the current provincial council coincided with the start of the fibre-optic sites of the Bul (Ultra Broadband) Project, entrusted to Open Fiber: the first was, in fact, Carisolo in the summer of that year, then delivered in early 2020. To the tally must be added the four Trentino municipalities (Storo, Bondone, San Giovanni di Fassa and Soraga) served by the fibre networks, which were implemented at the time by the local electricity consortia. More generally, in these five years, ultra broadband has reached and surpassed the threshold of 500 thousand, out of 542 thousand, inhabitants reached by fast Internet in Trentino. These are the figures from which the provincial councillor for economic development, research and employment of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Achille Spinelli, starts out to draw up the balance sheet for the end of the legislature: "When I took office, I promised the simultaneous acceleration of the project, which was slowed down at the time by bureaucratic snags, and the simultaneous acceleration in the opening of the construction sites. The promise, I believe, has been kept because we have speeded up the authorisation times, encouraged coordination between the various administrations and started the constant monitoring of a state project, carried out in Trentino thanks to the Infratel tender, the timing and implementation of which, however, depend on Open Fiber. Credit is also due to Trentino Digitale for the cooperation it has provided in the area of infrastructure. Ultra-broadband connectivity,' Spinelli concluded, 'is fundamental to guarantee the territory competitiveness and citizens and businesses access to the new generation digital services that we are implementing with funds from the NRP. Innovation also means counting on fast and stable internet connections'.
